Tournament Report: Final Thoughts

Despite my attempts to make my army more competitive, I still didn't do so well. Now, that certainly has a lot to do with some bad match ups as well as poor decisions on my part (especially in the first game). Still, there are significant problems with my army list (which made those match up so bad). I simply have no protection against large blasts that go through power armor, and I can't get to it quickly enough to destroy it. I just have to wait for my flyers to engage it, and they are usually too busy dealing with enemy flyers or anti-air units.

Speaking of flyers, it seems to me that the Stormraven is far better at being a gunship than at delivering Terminators into assault. While they almost always reach the enemy, the Stormraven is killed as soon as it drops into hover mode. The problem is that I need the Stormraven's guns much more than I need the Terminators in assault. I am thinking I would be best off without the Terminators.

Tournament Report: Game 3

My last game would be against a Forgeworld tank company list, with a small allied contingent of Imperial Guard. My list, once again, was:

Thunderfire Cannon

5 Assault Terminators, all with thunder hammer/storm shield

Stormraven w/ multi-melta, assault cannons

Stormtalon w/ skyhammer missiles

My opponents army was an impressive collection of Forgeworld models, all nicely weathered. As I remember it, he took:

Veteran Squad w/ Sgt Harker, autocannon, 3 meltaguns

Guardsman Marbo

Tournament Report: Game 2

My second game would be against a Necron army. Impressively (to me at least), it wasn't a Necron Air Force but a very fluffy phalanx of infantry supported by two Monoliths and Destroyers.

Once again, I used:

Amra (aka Lysander)

10 Tactical Marines w/ plasma gun, lascannon

10 Tactical Marines w/ plasma gun, lascannon

5 Scouts w/ Telion, 3 sniper rifles, missile launcher, camo cloaks

10 Sternguard w/ 2 combi-meltas

8 Sternguard w/ 2 combi-meltas, 2 plasma guns

Thunderfire Cannon

5 Assault Terminators, all with thunder hammer/storm shield

Stormraven w/ multi-melta, assault cannons

Stormtalon w/ skyhammer missiles

The Necron list, as I can remember it, was:

Nemesor  Zahndrekh

Vargard Obyron

11 Necron Warriors

10 Immortals w/ Tesla

10 Immortals w/ Tesla

3 Heavy Destroyers

3 Heavy Destroyers

Monolith

Executioners Assault Terminators: Squad Druss

Here are the finished models of the Legends, led by Sgt Druss. They're standard Assault Terminators, with Chaos Warrior axes, helmets, and shields (similar to my model for Amra the Lion). I covered the history of this squad in my last post; I really wanted these models to each look like a hero in their own right, so they each have individual heraldry on their shields. They're all variations on the standard skulls and axes, but different enough to give each model some individuality.

Sgt Druss and the Legends

In 763918.M41, the Executioners received a request for assistance from the 4th world of the Drenai system. The Chapter was operating as a whole, as they were only a few years into their century long penitent crusade. Drenai 4 had been invaded by a massive Ork Waaagh, and their planetary defense force had been annihilated. Only the planetary capital, Hive Delnoch, remained in Imperial hands, and it was facing a massive Ork siege. The entire Executioners Chapter set course for the Drenai system, but the threat was so urgent that an advance force was sent on the Chapter’s fastest ship, the Night Hag.

Executioners Background: Late Badab War

This background is based on that from Imperial Armour Volumes 9 and 10, without any additions from my homebrewed fluff. I decided to write up a synopsis of the official Executioner background due to the difficulty and expense in procuring the original sources. Enjoy!

After the events of the Red Hour, the Executioners waged a private war against the Astral Claws, using their knowledge of the hidden Secessionist bases to inflict significant damage with few losses. They immediately ceased attacks on Imperial shipping, much to the confusion of the Loyalists. The events of the Red Hour only came to light once the Pyre of Glory limped into port months later. However, the Executioners refused to surrender to the Loyalists.

Executioners Stormraven Gunship: The Everlasting Sky

Here I present the first step in my plan to make the Executioners more competitive in 6th Edition: The Everlasting Sky. I was able to magnetize the front weapons (though I didn't bother with the heavy bolters yet) and the hurricane bolters. However, I wasn't able to magnetize the turret in a way that I liked, so I'm committed to assault cannons there. I don't think that should be a problem.

Product Review: Rustoleum Ultra Cover Spray Paints

I've been using Privateer Press spray primer for the last couple years, as it provides excellent coverage without obscuring detail. At $10 a can, it's cheaper than GW or Army Painter Primer, so it worked for me. However, I've heard good things about Rustoluem's new Ultra Cover Primer. At around $4 a can, it was definitely worth trying out. I couldn't find the standard primer, so I picked up the paint+primer. I also grabbed their matte varnish to see how it compares to Dull-Cote.

Executioners Background: The Red Hour

This background is based on that from Imperial Armour Volumes 9 and 10, without any additions from my homebrewed fluff. I decided to write up a synopsis of the official Executioner background due to the difficulty and expense in procuring the original sources. Enjoy!

In 270911.M41, the Loyalist Gift of Fire task force was returning from its victory over the Astral Claws on the planet Shaprias in the Lamptan system, during which they had discovered the Astral Claws attempts to create thousands of additional Astartes using geneseed stolen from other Chapters. En route, they hit a warp storm and the Salamanders battle barge Pyre of Glory and the light cruiser Admiral Gregorius were damaged and forced to drop back into realspace. They were discovered by the Astral Claw strike cruiser Hyrcania, commanded by the infamous Arch-Centurion Carnac Commodus. The Astral Claw commander recognized that his ship could not defeat the two Loyalist vessels and sent a request for assistance.

Commission: Ultramarines Librarian

Here are some pictures of the promised Ultramarine Terminator Librarian. This model is absolutely covered in detail, so it was great fun to paint. The Ultramarine specific bit is the freehand on his left knee; that was the only flat area I could find on the model.
